Experience is NOT the Best Teacher

We have all heard the saying that “experience is the best teacher.”

While sometimes it may be true, I believe that far more often experience is not the best teacher.

First, I’ve met thousands of distributors and sales reps whose sales are very low. Sometimes they will tell me that they have been in the industry for 20 or 30 years or more. But the truth is they have really been in the industry one year 20 or 30 times. Repeating less than optimal experiences drives less than optimal results.

Second, many of our experiences from business activities are negative. When we have negative experiences, we may learn what activities not to do, but negative experiences do not teach what activities to do.

Third, my advice when experiencing negative and less than optimal results is to seek advice to learn the best activities and strategies to drive positive, optimal results.

Though experience is not usually the best teacher, it is the best motivation to go learn the best lessons
